Rezumat/Abstract. Semiotics, as a general science of signs and their interpretation, took important steps in deciphering the language of landscapes in terms of text and sign. At their turn, signs can be discussed in the terms of a triad – icon, index, and symbol. The paper summarizes these concepts and applies them to the landscape architecture.
